Waxwing Farm is looking for motivated and hard-working individuals to join our farm crew for the 2024 growing season. We grow and supply vegetables for a 75 member CSA, 10+ restaurant accounts and multiple school districts. We are currently farming about 5 acres of produce plus three hoop houses.
Responsibilities: Our farm crew is involved in all aspects of vegetable production, from seed to harvest. Responsibilities include:
- Greenhouse work, transplanting, irrigation, weeding, and general plant care and maintenance.
- Harvesting, washing, grading and packing produce
- Hoop house work (planting, trellising, pruning, weeding, irrigating)
- Light tractor work (with experience)
- General farm upkeep
- Delivering produce
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and organized, with an attention to detail and efficiency. Previous farm experience is a plus but not required. Crew members must be physically fit and should expect to work quickly and efficiently in all weather conditions. Employees must be able to work independently and with others. We seek someone that wants to work hard, eat well, and continue to learn and grow. Preference will be given to those who are interested in returning to work for multiple seasons. Opportunities to grow with our farm and take on more responsibility exist.
Timeframe and Hours: Our work season runs from April to late October/November. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm with a 45 min unpaid lunch break (lunch provided 1 day a week). Work hours can vary with the weather, but full-time positions are 38-45 hours per week and part-time positions are 16-24 hours per week.
Compensation/Benefits: We value our employees. Pay from $15 to $17/hour, depending on experience. In addition, we provide hot lunch (one day/week) and good coffee (daily). Free produce and eggs available when in season. On farm accommodations provided for one full time employee, if necessary. We can assist with securing additional housing if need be.
